The special prize at the Concrete Building of the Year 2012 for architectural concept was awarded to the University of Tartu Narva College, architects Siiri Vallner, Indrek Peil and Katrin Koov from the architectural bureau Kavakava OÜ. The building's unique façade imitates the baroque façade of a stock exchange building in negative that once stood in the same place.

The jury recognised the project as a building that promotes concrete in the best way. "It is a world-class architectural concept that is cleanly consistent to the end. The entire building is very concrete-based, and the interior also shows off concrete well. It is an excellent example of a building where concrete serves architecture," the jury noted.

Customer: University of Tartu
Constructor: chief constructor of the building Ehitusekspertiisibüroo OÜ, constructor of the pre-cast façade AS E-Betoonelement.

Object: Ramp of the car park
Address: Lai St. 7, Pärnu
Architect: TEMPT OÜ
Client: Merko Ehitus Eesti AS
AS E-Betoonelement's contracting: production and transport of elements
Sales Engineer: Neeme Kasela
Project Manager: Priit Kärner

E-Betoonelement's Project Manager Priit Kärner: "In all probability, the Pärnu car park should be completed by the end of July this year. The construction works also include a new façade for the existing car park. The installation of ramp's elements is going to be significantly more difficult than usual and restricted access to the construction object does not make it any easier. All the elements are manufactured in the factory in Tamsalu, including the arched beam and wall elements."

The solution of the ramp of the car park is based on the concept developed by AS Betoonelement's parent undertaking Consolis. The car park itself has been built already and is 6-storeys high. Floors 0 and 1 of the building house commercial premises; floors 2 to 6 are for parking spaces. You can read more about E-Betoonelement's car park systems here. here.

E-Betoonelement delivers hollow core slabs, posts, beams and arched beam and wall elements to the object.

Object: Expansion of the Rocca al Mare Shopping Centre, IV stage
Address: Paldiski mnt 102, Tallinn
Architects: Meeli Truu and Maike Heido, AS Nord Projekt
Contracting entity: Nordecon AS
AS E-Betoonelement's contracting: design, elements and transport
Sales Engineer: Neeme Kasela
Project Manager: Toomas Böttcher

AS E-Betoonelement entered into a contract with AS Nordecon to design and deliver reinforced concrete elements for the expansion of the Rocca al Mare Shopping Centre. First elements arrived at the object at the start of this week.

The expansion gives Rocca al Mare Shopping centre nearly 3700 mwhich comes at the expense of the loading area for goods in the back yard. The space to be built will be two storeys high like the part of the centre that has already been reconstructed and expanded.

E-Betoonelement delivers hollow core slabs, posts, beams and wall elements for the expansion of the centre. The deliveries will last until the end of March. The expansion will be completed in the summer of 2013.

CABRO team from E-Betoonelement is participating at the Sarka Fair in North-West Finland this Friday and Saturday. It is an agricultural fair that approximately 150 companies take part in.

Cabro team is introducing mostly tanks from the Acontank™ range, but also gives out information about other solutions made of precast concrete.

The Fair is open on Friday at 09:00-17:00 and Saturday at 10:00-16:00.

According to Vaido Leosk, head of AS E-Betoonelement, there was an expectation of a rise in prices. On the other hand, he is surprised to find that the wages did not rise statistically. According to Leosk, this refers to unpaid taxes.

"The rise in construction prices is not surprising in itself. Construction has grown significantly in 2012, and in terms of rapid growth, the price increase is logical, as demand for the resource is increasing, "said Leosk.

According to him, the salary was influenced by continued operation of many skilled construction workers in foreign markets, while also the rapid growth of renovation work financed by the sale of CO2 quotas and the fixed maturity of the subsidy.

Rather, it makes him wonder that the wage increase was statistically so small, especially in renovation work. "This shows that there is still a problem with the payment of taxes in the construction sector," said Leosk.

Object: Kehärata railway safety tunnel
Location: Surroundings of Helsinki
Client: Parma OY, sister company of AS E-Betoonelement
Contract activities of AS E-Betoonelement: production and supply of elements
Volume of products: 4060 m3
Contract period: 2013
Project manager: Kairet Luiga

AS E-Betoonelement concluded a contract with its sister company Parma OY for production and supply of reinforced concrete arched ceiling elements of Kehärata railway safety tunnel.

Kehärata is a two-track railway under construction in the surroundings of Helsinki for the transport of passengers, with total length 18 km. Excavation activities of the tunnel part running under the airport were started in 2009 and according to the initial plans Kehärata had to be opened for traffic in 2014, but this term was postponed by a year and now the opening of the railway should take place in July 2015. Delay of the time schedule was caused by degradation products of glycol-based de-icing liquids of aircraft found in the soil in the course of excavation activities under Helsinki-Vantaa airport, which are aggressive (facilitating microbe growth) and shorten the life of construction materials. Due to these circumstances a safety structure was planned for the tunnel section running under the territory of the airport (ca 750 m). This means construction of a reinforced concrete tunnel structure to be mounted inside a tunnel blasted into the rock and its covering with a special membrane.

AS E-Betoonelement will supply ca 800 large and ca 100 smaller arched elements for the safety tunnel. Dimensions (length-width-height) of a large arched element are 7,64 x 2,47 x 2,53 m and weight 11.5 t per element.
