This year\u2019s Concrete Day took place in the Estonian Academy of Artswhere the Estonian Concrete Association announced the winners of the \u2018Concrete Building of the Year Awards 2018\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Concrete Building of the Year 2018 is the building of the Estonian Academy of Arts.<\/strong>.
The main prize, architecture \u2013  KUU Arhitektid: Joel Kopli, Koit Ojaliiv, Juhan Rohtla and Eik Hermann.<\/strong>
Contractor Award: Estonian Academy of Arts.
Designer Award: Insenerib\u00fcroo Printsiip O\u00dc (T\u00f5nu Peipman, Piret Lindma, Andres Sokk, Tom Arula);
Interior Design Award: Pink O\u00dc (Tarmo Piirmets, Raul Tiitus);
Constructor Award: Astlanda Ehitus O\u00dc;
Concrete Works Award: Maru Betoonit\u00f6\u00f6d O\u00dc;
Concrete Award: Betoonimeister O\u00dc;

\u017d\u00fcrii kommentaar: \u201eUue betoonhoone ja vanade betoonhoonete arhitektuurselt sobivalt seotud funktsionaalne liitumine. Hoones on esindatud s\u00f5jaeelse Eesti Vabariigi aegsed betoonkonstruktsioonid, n\u00f5ukogudeaegsed t\u00f6\u00f6stushoone ja administratiivhoone monteeritavad raudbetoonkarkassid ning t\u00e4nap\u00e4evane uusehituse osa. Betoonpinnad on j\u00e4etud v\u00f5imalikult suures ulatuses vaadeldavateks ilma katva viimistluseta.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairman of the Jury Aadu Kana<\/strong>: \u201eOne of our best examples of Estonian industrial architecture and a mixture of rooms from different eras has been united into a dignified, yet youthful entity. The concrete here proves to be a remarkable example of a truly durable material,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u017d\u00fcrii kommentaar: \u201eUuele elamukvartalile loodud keskne skulpturaalne vorm,  demonstreerimaks insenertehnilist v\u00f5imekust anda betoonkehale soovitud kuju, mis m\u00f5jub \u00fchtaegu saledalt ja kunstip\u00e4raselt. Arhitektooni \u00f5huke ristl\u00f5ige on saavutatud betooni ja armeeringu viimisega teostatavuse piirini, mis illustreerib p\u00f5hjapanevaid teadmisi betooni kui materjali kohta.\u201d

Special award for Architecture <\/strong>architect Martin Aunin <\/strong>\u2013Roseni 9\/11 hotel-apartment and office building<\/strong>\u2013 for innovative use of concrete and display of the material.
The jury\u2019s comment: \u201eBoth on the facade of the building and in the interior red concrete dominates. Red concrete has been used in a variety of ways \u2013 in fine-cut frames with monolithic concrete casting, as complex or deep patterned facade and balcony border elements and as large-format paving slabs around the house. The red prefabricated wall elements are both outer shell elements and three-layer sandwich elements. The West Facade has a red concrete balcony system. The semi-circular main staircase in the hotel lobby is clean red concrete.

The magazine \u201cEhitaja\u201d(\u00c4rip\u00e4ev) Award goes toHaart Ehitus O\u00dc\u2013 for the construction of the Memorial to the victims of communism in Tallinn.<\/strong>.
The Special Award of the Estonian Association of Civil Engineers goes to \u2013 J\u00e4relpinge Insenerib\u00fcroo O\u00dc:  Aivar-Oskar Saar, Sven Naadel, Martin Meisalu and Priit P\u00e4rn\u2013 the designer of the Haabersti intersection facilitiesin Tallinn.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Concrete Building of the Year Awards has been held for the 19th year. The aim of the awards is to create awareness for the wider areas of application for concrete and to acknowledge those people who have used this versatile and easy-to-shape domestic building material to implement their ideas.
23 projects were submitted to this year\u2019s competition. Qualification involved concrete buildings that were delivered to the contractor in 2018, as well as any structures and procedures which were used within them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The members of the jury of the Concrete Building of the Year Awards 2018 were Peeter Pere from the Estonian Association of Architects, Kalev Ramjalg from Estonian Concrete Association, Indrek Peterson from the Estonian Association of Construction Entrepreneurs, Indrek Laul from the Estonian Association of Civil Engineers, Andres Saar from the Estonian Association of Architectural and Consulting Engineering Companies, Enno Rebane from the Association of Construction Material Producers of Estonia, Aadu Kana, the jury\u2019s chairman, and also construction journalists\u2013 Eva Kiisler, the chief editor of construction publications in \u201e\u00c4rip\u00e4ev\u201d, Liivi Tamm from \u201eEhitusEST\u201d magazine, and Finnish architectMaritta Koivisto from \u201eBetoni\u201d magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Estonian Concrete Association incorporates 65 companies, organisations, and private individuals, and aims to promote the use of concrete as a domestic construction material. <\/em>The Association of Construction Material Producers of Estonia incorporates 63 member companies which are involved in the production and sale of construction materials.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
