Thirteen nominations were submitted to the competition \u201cConcrete Building of the Year 2010\u201d organised by the Concrete Association of Estonia (CAE) and the Association of Construction Material Producers of Estonia (ACMPE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis year\u2019s competition of concrete buildings has been the least Tallinn-centred throughout the competition\u2019s history,\u201d said Mati Laurson, the Chairman of the Management Board of the CAE. \u201cOur competition quite adequately reflects changes that have taken place in the construction market lately \u2013 the proportion of infrastructure objects and buildings financed by the state has grown,\u201d Laurson added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Concrete Building of the Year 2010 nominees are the following:
1. Outdoor areas of the Estonian Road Museum \u2013 Varbuse, Kanepi Rural Municipality, P\u00f5lvamaa;
2. Residential building in Keila-Joa, N\u00e4kineiu tee 9 \u2013 Keila Rural Municipality, Harjumaa;
3. Residential building in N\u00f5mme (Black house), Valguse tn 17 \u2013 Tallinn;
4. Residential building in Pirita, Vahtram\u00e4e tee 9 \u2013 Tallinn;
5. Office building of Jewe \u2013 J\u00f5hvi;
6. J\u00f5hvi Court House \u2013 J\u00f5hvi;
7. Kersti V\u00f5lu\u2019s Training Centre \u2013 J\u00f5hvi;
8. M\u00e4o traffic junction (Tarbija flyover, M\u00e4o flyover, Vodja bridge, Valgma flyover, Valgma defence caisson, flyover of M\u00e4o centre) \u2013 J\u00e4rvamaa;
9. Reconstruction of the Kukruse-J\u00f5hvi road section of Tallinn-Narva highway (km 156-163) into a first-class highway \u2013 Ida-Virumaa;
10. Science Centre AHHAA \u2013 Tartu;
11. Ski Stadium of Tehvandi Sport Center \u2013 Otep\u00e4\u00e4, Valgamaa;
12. The traffic area of \u00c4mari Air Base (runway, platforms, taxiways, waste water treatment plant) \u2013 \u00c4mari, Vasalemma Rural Municipality, Harjumaa;
13. Business building, \u00dclikooli 2\/2B \u2013 Tartu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The purpose of the competition is to find and highlight buildings, the nice appearance and effective and economic realisation of which demonstrate the advantages and possibilities of concrete as a domestic material. Winning objects or procedures are those where the work of enterprises registered in Estonia and concrete materials delivered from Estonia have played an important role. Likewise, the professionalism and level of pretentiousness of the technical design and construction of the object, as well as its quality and innovativeness will be taken into consideration when choosing the winning object. The grand prize will be awarded to the author of the winning idea \u2013 the architect. The contracting entity of the object, technical designer, builder, and supplier of concrete products will also be recognised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The jury of the competition held for the 11th time will include representatives of the Union of Estonian Architects, the Concrete Association of Estonia, the Estonian Association of Civil Engineers, the Estonian Association of Construction Entrepreneurs, the Association of Construction Material Producers of Estonia, the Estonian Association of Architectural and Consulting Engineering Companies, Kunda Nordic Cement, and construction journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe jury will start acquainting itself with the nominees,\u201d said Peeter Kokk, the Chief Executive of the CAE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winner will be announced at the 11th Concrete Day in March 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
