16 nominees were submitted to the contest of the Concrete Building of the Year 2012 organised by the Estonian Concrete Society (ECS) and the Association of Construction Material Producers of Estonia (ACMPE).
\u201cThis year there are some truly remarkable concrete buildings among the nominees that highlight different properties of concrete as an easily moldable and very durable construction material,\" said Vaido Leosk, the chairperson of ECS. \u201cWe are especially happy to see that the buildings submitted to the contest are from very different places all over Estonia,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nominees of the Concrete Building of the Year 2012 are:
1. Concrete sculptures in front of Paide and S\u00e4revere school buildings of J\u00e4rva County Vocational Training Centre;
2. Administration building of Eesti Energia \u00d5lit\u00f6\u00f6stus AS;
3. Private residence in Haabersti;
4. Kukem\u00f5isa Guest House in J\u00e4rva County;
5. Lillek\u00fcla pedestrian underpass;
6. Production and storehouse of Loodus Invest AS;
7. Overpass at the eastern part of Muuga port;
8. Semi-detached house in Tartu;
9. Crypt and columbarium of St. Paul\u2019s church;
10. Rimi shopping centre in Laagri;
11. Production building of Saajos AS;
12. Reconstruction of the seaplane hangars at Tallinn Seaplane Harbour for the exhibition building of the Estonian Maritime Museum;
13. Reconstruction of Tallinn TV Tower;
14. Automotive training workshop at Tartu Vocational Education Centre;
15. New building of Narva College of the University of Tartu;
16. Construction of stormwater recipient system at \u00dclemiste junction .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis time the contest will be very close as there are many refined buildings and facilities competing,\" said Peeter Kokk, the CEO of ECS. \u201cThe jury will start work in January, \" he added.
The aim of the competition is to find and highlight the buildings, whose appearance and effective and economical performance demonstrate the advantages and potential of concrete as a domestic construction material.
The object wins, where a significant contribution has been made by the work of registered enterprisers in Estonia and concrete materials delivered from Estonia. The choice of winning will also take into account the professionalism and demanding, quality and innovativeness of the design and construction of the site.
The main prize belongs to the author of the winning idea.
Jury for the thirteenth competition include the representatives of the Estonian Association of Architects, the Estonian Concrete Association, the Estonian Association of Civil Engineers, the Estonian Association of Building Contractors, the Estonian Building Materials Manufacturers Association, the Union of Estonian Project Bureaus, the Kunda Nordic Cement and construction journalists.
The winner will be announced on the Concrete Day in March 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Estonian Concrete Association is a union that promotes the use of concrete as a domestic building material, which includes 48 companies, organizations and private individuals.
The Association of Estonian Building Materials Manufacturers is an association of construction materials manufacturing and sales companies, which comprises 62 enterprises.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
