An overview book of the 21st century Estonian concrete construction, “Concrete Book – Concrete Buildings in the 21st Century Estoniawith red, black, white and brown Reckli finish."

The book contains numerous interviews with Estonian architects, constructors, managers of construction and concrete companies, as well as overview articles on the history of Estonian concrete architecture (by Karin Paulus) and the history of the Concrete Building of the Year contest (by Eva Kiisler).

“When we think about our living environment, the contemporary country and society are unthinkable without concrete and artificial stone,” the chairman of the Estonian Concrete Imre Leetmasays in the book’s preface. “Everyone can ponder, browsing through this book, whether these winners reflect the environment around us on a broader scale. Are these buildings, or at least some of them becoming landmarks? Imprints in stone of their own time.”

The richly illustrated book with texts in Estonian, English, and Russian, gives an overview of the contemporary Estonian concrete architecture and construction on the basis of the winning works of the Concrete Building of the Year contest, the oldest construction contest in Estonia.

The publication was commissioned by the Estonian Concrete Association and the Association of Construction Material Producers of Estonia.

E-Betoonelement, the Estonian subsidiary of the Consolis group, one of the world leaders in precast concrete solutions, has just acquired a new machine that pushes back the boundaries of creativity in the construction of buildings. The machine chosen enables the automated and rapid production of prefabricated concrete surfaces with complex graphic effects”;

the benefits of the machine, in simple words, are as follows:

  • it is possible to get every kind of different effect: polishing, honing, brushing, bush hammering etc.;
  • by using some additional devices, (such as pumps and nozzles), it is possible to get a water-washed effect (exposed aggregates);
  • complicated geometries can be treated (such as curved surfaces or panels with multiple surfaces angulated in relation to each other);
  • treatment of big size panels (up to 40 sqm) is possible in less than one hour in a fully automated way.

The different tools applied on the different working heads can follow the profile of the elements (flat or curved surfaces) and perform a series of different operations, such as special engravings, cutting operations and others.

E-Betoonelement's parent company Consolis and TowerBrook Capital Partners entered into a transaction for the sales of Rail division.

Swetrak uus logo Sateba

SATEBA is a European leader in its field and supplies all major European railway networks. The company employs 1,000 people in ten countries and has annual revenue of 200 million euros.

„See tehing võimaldab Consolisel keskenduda oma põhitegevusele. Soovime oma kolleegidele edu!” ütles Mikael Stöhr, CEO of Consolis..

Benoit Cattin-Martel, the CEO of SATEBA points out: "This is the beginning of a new adventure, driven by the commitment of our teams, our technological expertise and our close cooperation with all railway companies to advance our responsibility for sustainable development, passenger safety and growth."

The company was officially launched on Monday, April 12, 2021.

This week, E-Betoonelement organizes its annual Safety Week that focuses on ensuring safety in factories, offices and home offices. The companies in the Consolis Group, including E-Betoonelement, all strive for accident-free workplace environment. The numbers have improved year to year, but there is still a lot to be done to prevent accidents and achieve a workplace where no accidents occure.

The Safety Week will focus on five different topics, all of which will be covered in more detail: accident-free work environment, line of fire, escape routes, tools, and the prevention of the spread of Covid-19. These topics are covered in theory, but practical examples are given of what accidents have occured and how to avoid them. It is important to note that each employee is responsible for their own safe behavior and is certainly expected to intervene when they see others behave in a non-safe way.

Plant Manager at Harku, Hans Süld: „Õnnetustevaba kultuuri suunas peame liikuma igapäevaselt –  sinna jõudmine ei ole helesinine unistus, sest see on võimalik. Süsteemselt tuleb tegeleda riskikäitumisega – seda nähes tuleb reageerida, alati. Siht on jõuda järgmisele tasemele ehk sinna, et töötajal on endal motivatsioon ilma välise mõjuta (käskudeta) käituda ohutult nii enda kui teiste suhtes.”

Tamsalu Factory Manager, Marek Prees: "Without exception, all accidents can be prevented if you behave correctly - this is as simple as that. To behave correctly you have to be aware of the right work methods and, of course, the right tools and personal protective equipment. In this regard, we need to educate our employees every day. It is the responsibility of managers to provide this knowledge to the people, and often we have to take on a role of "an educator". What I would like to remind everyone during the occupational safety week - when you see that something is being done wrong, don't walk away. Don't be afraid of being more caring."

Due to the high rate of the COVID-19 cases in Estonia, the safety week events this year are carried out mostly online, i.e. all workshops take place via screens. Personalized workshops in the factories have been postponed and will later take place in the same work groups that are in daily contact anyway to prevent the possible spread of the coronavirus.

E-Betoonelement OÜ and Nordecon AS have, in cooperation, completed Stage I of the beautiful Kalaranna Quarter and Stage II is already halfway through with two buildings assembled and the last two residential buildings started.

Project: Kalaranna Quarter, Kalaranna Street, Tallinn (I-II construction phases)
Customer: Nordecon AS
Developer: AS Pro Kapital Grupp
Architect: Mihkel Tüür and Ott Kadarik, Kadarik Tüür Arhitektid OÜ
Contracting: Supply of precast elements
E-Betoonelement project manager: Toomas Böttcher

According to Toomas Böttcher, the Project Manager of E-Betoonelement: „Hoonete välisviimistlus jääb kaunilt omapärane ja stiililt eristuv, sest elementide tootmisel kasutatakse spetsiaalset Rekli pinnaviimistlusmeetodit reljeefse betoonpinna saavutamiseks, mis omakorda aksendi andmiseks sügavmusta värviga kaetakse.”

Betoonpind must rekli
Hoone välissein – hall betoon kõrvuti värvitud musta Rekli pinnaga.

Lisaks eeltoodule kasutatakse fassaadiviimistluses mitmeid erinevaid viimistlusi nt looduskivi, puitu, alumiinium-komposiitplaati ning tellist.

"The plants of E-Betoonelement in Harkus and Tamsalu, work closely together to ensure that all the elements can be delivered to the site on time and with the highest quality. Some of the elements come from our Consolis subsidiaries in Latvia. Specially shaped balconies to contribute to the facades of prefabricated houses come from the Tamsalu plant, ” says Toomas Böttcher .

The developer of the Kalaranna area is AS Pro Kapital Grupp, an experienced real estate development company in the Baltics. E-Betoonelement has previously developed several projects with Pro Kapital, including, for example, the entertainment and shopping center T1.

The precast element houses to be built in the Kalaranna Quarter are adjacent to Linnahall and Kalaranna parks and are planned to have four to five storeys. A one-storey 20,000 square meter underground car park with almost 450 parking spaces will be built on the property. An elevator is planned into each building. Commercial premises are planned on the ground floors of the buildings, which can be accessed from the street. In addition to the commercial premises, there are entrances on the ground floors to the stairwells and storage rooms of apartment buildings, where residents can store prams or bicycles.

E-Betoonelement will complete the deliveries by the beginning of April.

Despite the loads of snow and freezing temperatures this winter in Estonia, E-Betoonelement has already completed half of the deliveries to the site of the Tallinn School of Music and Ballet . There is more on-site work compared to warm weather, and limited movement conditions.

Project: Tallinn School of Music and Ballet
Customer: Merko Ehitus Eesti AS
Contracting: Supply of precast elements
Project management Toomas Böttcher
Delivery: August 2020 - May 2021

Toomas Böttcher, project manager at E-Betoonelement"The work on the site of the Tallinn School of Music and Ballet is carried out in two shifts, because this year's cold and snowy winter has challenged us. In case of snow fall and freezing temperatures, the elements that have arrived at the site need to be cleaned and this will take some time.

In this project, the elements come, in addition to the Harku plant, from our other Consolis subsidiaries' plants - this allows us to optimize deliveries and ensure that the elements arrive at the site on time.

E-Betoonelement does not compromise on the quality of the products, because most of the interior walls of the Tallinn School of Music and Ballet remain as exposed concrete surface and subsequent colour corrections or other changes of the elements are not possible. We pay a lot of attention to the production of elements in the plants in order to ensure their esthetic and even appearance in the finished building."

The architectural idea of the design is to create a special enchanted place in an urban space, by arranging the buildings at the borders of the plot, so that a unique and unexpected open space is created in the middle.

E-Betoonelement will complete all its deliveries by the beginning of summer.
